Gadio
On December 19, 2007, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with visiting State Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the
Republic of Senegal Cheikh Tidiane Gadio in the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Yang said China and Senegal have candidly treated and sincerely cooperated with each other since the two resumed diplomatic relations in 2005, adding that bilateral cooperation in various
fields has been fruitful. The Chinese government appreciates the Senegalese government’s adherence to the one-China policy and its support for China’s reunification, Yang noted. China cherishes
its friendship with Senegal and is willing to make joint efforts with Senegal to keep the close bilateral exchanges, deepen bilateral cooperation in various fields, implement the agreements
reached at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, intensify bilateral coordination and collaboration in international affairs and promote the all-round development of
friendly and cooperative relations between China and Senegal, he said.
Gadio said the Senegal-China friendly cooperation has recovered and developed rapidly since the resumption of diplomatic ties. The Senegalese government is grateful for China’s assistance to
Senegal’s social and economic development, Gadio said. Senegal regards China as its strategic and cooperative partner, and is ready to work with China to cement bilateral cooperation in various
fields and push forward the development of bilateral relations, he said. Gadio reiterated that the Senegalese government will continue to adhere to the one-China policy.
Yang and Gadio also exchanged views on regional and international issues of common concern.
